Stockholm in December feels quiet. Controlled. Cinematic.
The sun sets at 3pm, the light turns gold for 45 minutes and then disappears.
Candles replace daylight.
You walk through Gamla Stan, snow under your boots, and every window glows like a film set.
It’s minimal, but it’s warm minimal.

Where to stay
Elite Palace Hotel & Spa

If you’re looking for something affordable but still very good, this is the right option.
Located slightly away from the tourist center, it feels calmer and more local.
The rooms are modern, warm, and functional, very Scandinavian, very easy.
But the real highlight: The Vana Spa.
After walking in the cold all day, you go straight to the sauna.
Steam. Warm pool. Total reset.
From approx. €120–220 per night depending on the season.
Honestly, for the price and the spa access, it’s a very solid choice.
ett hem

If you are looking for a place to vibe, this is the right place.
Fireplaces burn all day. Sheepskins everywhere.
Dark wood. Soft lighting. Zero effort luxury.
Christmas here feels intimate. Quiet. Expensive… in the right way.
From around €450+ per night.
Food & drinks
Food favorites
Grillska Huset
Top tier for a winter tea time. Located in Gamla Stan, it feels cosy without being too polished. Go there if you need warmth and sugar. Tea. Pastries. Slow afternoon energy.
It’s giving: pause your life for an hour.
Östermalms Saluhall:
The food market of Östermalm is iconic. Historic building. High ceilings. Premium Swedish produce. You wander between seafood stalls, cured meats, cinnamon buns. It feels refined and alive.
Perfect for lunch when you want something local but elevated.
Fondueboden:
Go eat there if you are after a long day exploring the city in the cold. You will for sure find comfort. It’s cosy, slightly alpine, slightly chaotic in the best way.
You leave warm. And very full.
Drinks favorites
Mammut Bar
Moody. Intimate. Slightly underground.
If you want that Viking-inspired atmosphere but without the chaos of Aifur (another viking bar), this is the move. It feels warm, candlelit, almost secret. You go here when you want depth. Not noise. Order something hearty and stay for a second drink.
Lucy’s Flower Shop:
Hidden behind another bar. Slightly speakeasy energy. It feels underground but not try-hard. The music is good and the crowd is kinda cool.
You come here after dinner when the night isn’t over yet. It’s less Christmas market, more Stockholm after dark.
Pharmarium
Right on Stortorget, but don’t let the location fool you. It’s small, candlelit, intimate. It used to be a pharmacy, now it’s one of the best cocktail bars in the city. It’s dark in the best way.
